Writing Lyrics in RHYMEBOOK

Everything you need to know about creating, formatting, organizing, and managing your lyrics in the RHYMEBOOK app.

Creating Your First Note

Tap the + button on the Notes tab to create a new note. Choose a note type that matches what you're writing:

  • Song — A complete song with multiple sections
  • Poem — Poetry or spoken word pieces
  • Verse — A standalone verse or bars
  • Chorus — A hook or chorus you want to develop
  • Freestyle — Off-the-top writing, no structure needed
  • Idea — Quick ideas, phrases, or concepts to revisit later
  • Other — Anything that doesn't fit the above

Give your note a title and start writing. Don't worry about getting it perfect — you can always edit, reorganize, and refine later.

Formatting Your Lyrics

RHYMEBOOK includes rich text formatting so you can style your lyrics just how you want them:

B

Bold — Emphasize key words, punchlines, or important phrases

I

Italic — Mark ad-libs, whispered lines, or performance notes

U

Underline — Highlight rhyme words or phrases to revisit

A

Text Colors — Color-code different voices, rhyme patterns, or sections

Line numbers appear alongside your lyrics for easy reference — useful when discussing specific lines with collaborators or when counting bars.

Using Section Markers

Section markers help you organize your song structure directly in your lyrics. RHYMEBOOK recognizes these markers and uses them to calculate your writing statistics automatically.

[VERSE 1]
I started from the bottom now I'm here
Every word I write is crystal clear

[CHORUS]
This is my moment, this is my time
Every single syllable, every single rhyme

[VERSE 2]
Building on the foundation, laying it down...

Available markers: [VERSE], [CHORUS], [BRIDGE], [INTRO], [OUTRO], [PRE-CHORUS], [HOOK]. Add numbers for multiple sections (e.g., [VERSE 1], [VERSE 2]). Learn more about song sections in the Song Structure Guide.

Organizing with Folders, Tags & Colors

Folders

Create folders to group related notes — by project, album, genre, or however you think. Drag notes between folders to keep your library organized as it grows.

Tags

Add tags to notes for quick filtering. Tags work across folders, so you can tag notes with a mood, genre, or status (like "draft" or "finished") and find them instantly.

Colors & Pinning

Assign colors to notes for visual organization — helpful when scanning a long list. Pin important notes to the top of your library so they're always easy to find. Archive old notes to declutter without deleting.

Writing Statistics

RHYMEBOOK automatically tracks detailed statistics for every note in real time:

Words

Total word count

Lines

Total line count

Syllables

Total syllable count

Bars

Lines per section

Sections

Verse, chorus, etc.

Use these stats to keep your verses consistent — matching bar counts between verses creates a tighter, more professional song structure.

Note History & Versioning

Every edit you make is tracked. RHYMEBOOK keeps a version history for each note, so you can see how your lyrics evolved over time and restore any previous version if needed.

  • View history — See a timeline of all changes made to a note
  • Restore versions — Roll back to any previous version with one tap
  • Track collaborator edits — See who changed what in shared notes

Tips for Writing in the App

Use daily writing prompts

RHYMEBOOK offers daily prompts to spark inspiration when you're stuck. Open the app and check the prompt — even writing four bars is progress.

Embed voice memos

Record melodies, flows, or rough ideas directly into your note. Play them back while editing your lyrics to stay in the pocket.

Add cover art

Upload or generate cover art for finished songs. It appears on your published profile and makes your work stand out in the feed.
