Fundamentaler
Definition
In hip-hop slang, a 'fundamentaler' is a rapper, producer, or fan who strictly upholds the core fundamentals of rap—boom-bap beats, multisyllabic rhymes, raw lyricism, and battle-tested flows—rejecting trendy trap, mumble rap, or commercial gimmicks as dilutions of the culture.
Used in lyrics
“'I'm a fundamantaler, spittin' bars with no filter / Boom-bap forever, haters sound like they wilted' – Pharoahe Monch style, 'Internal Affairs' vibe (hypothetical 2023 verse).”
“'Fundamantalers rise, we keep the essence alive / No waves, just graves for these TikTok five percenters' – Joey Bada$$, '1999' extended (fan remix).”
“'Call me fundamantaler, I school these amateurs / Fundamentals first, that's the real stamina' – Black Thought, 'Streams of Thought' series.”
“'Fundamantalers unite, we fight for the purity / Dissing these posers with their weak-ass security' – Common, 'Be' era hypothetical.”
